The EU Russia Expert Network met for the 13th
time on 25 and 26 June. This was the first meeting that took place online because of the
COVID-19 pandemic and the interruption of air travel between Russia and the European Union.
Aleska Simkic, Deputy Head of the European Union Delegation to the Russian Federation, opened
the meeting and discussed with Andrey Kortunov, Director General of the Russian International
Affairs Council, and 35 experts from Russia and the EU about how the COVID-19 pandemic has
impacted on EU-Russia relations.
This was the second EUREN meeting devoted to
alternative futures of EU-Russia relations. The end-product of the EUREN scenario building
process, the second EUREN Report drafted by Sabine Fischer and Ivan Timofeev, will be presented
to a broader policy and expert audience in the EU and Russia in September.
The EUREN
was initiated by the Delegation of the European Union to the Russian Federation and the Russian
International Affairs Council. It is a platform for dialogue between foreign policy experts and
think tanks from EU member states and Russia. They exchange views on relevant issues and
formulate policy recommendations to be presented to decision-makers of both the EU and Russia.
